The trillion cut diamonds were first created in Amsterdam in the middle part of the 60"s, and was used as a side stone. While not as popular as traditional round cuts, for those that want a unique look, this triangular cut could fit the bill.
Because of its unusual shape, it catches the light a little different than most. Unlike most diamonds the trillion cut diamonds shape is decided on by the skill and preference of the stone cutter. Most try to follow the natural characteristics of the stone. This makes each one unique.
A diamonds can be triangular with rounded edges or more round but they should have 25 facets on the crown and 19 facets located on the pavilion. One of the advantages of a trillion cut diamond is that when compared to a round diamond of the same weight, they appear to be larger.
Many stone cutters and ring designers are using more and more trillion cut diamonds because of they are not as common and there is more freedom on the creativity side of this type of art work.
Because of the unusual shape, the brilliance is special. The prism when the light is reflected will be reflecting in the room like no other. Because of this many prefer this cut.
If tradition is more to your liking, this can accent a round solitaire on a second band nicely. This was the original purpose of this particular cut. When this cut surrounds a traditional round cut stone, the prisms that are let loose in the room will amaze you and impress most girls.
Trillion cut diamonds are not just as accents anymore, they are a special solitaire that are for those that want something different.
