Wedding bands are an important part of the ceremony. Gold, White gold and Platinum are the preferred metals for wedding bands. Yellow gold has been the most popular metal due to its affordability and brilliance. Platinum of late has also become a favourite due to its silver-white lustre and its rarity. It is however quite expensive. Couples who want the appearance of platinum with affordability can go for White Gold. Titanium is also becoming the preferred choice, especially of men. Titanium is preferred due to its durability and gun-metal grey colour. It might not appease women though. The least expensive metal is silver nickel. Couples choosing to make their bands look more attractive can opt for studded bands. Wedding bands are often studded with a cluster or many stones to give them an extravagant look.
Wedding bands are traditionally simple because tradition requires them to be so. They are not ornaments but material symbols exchanged by the bride and groom, and hence, the emphasis is not so much on how they look but what they mean. However, this does not mean that they cannot be unique. Engraving your name or date of marriage on the band will make it special for both of you. Another romantic idea can be borrowed from the French custom of creating a single ring made out of three different interwoven rings, made of different metals. Taking good care of your wedding band will ensure this. Clean it regularly using mild soap and water, avoid wearing the ring while using harsh chemicals or doing manual work. Get your ring polished once a year from your jeweller to keep up its shine. Choosing the right jeweller who uses pure metals or sells only certified authentic jewellery is also important while picking your wedding band.
